About Unconditional
Where is Unconditional dog food made?
Unconditional is proudly made in the USA. We source the finest ingredients from trusted suppliers around the world, selecting each one for quality, purity, and nutritional integrity. Never for convenience or cost-cutting.
Where do you source your ingredients?
We source our ingredients globally, working with suppliers who meet our strict standards for quality and traceability. Every ingredient earns its place in the bowl. We believe in knowing exactly what goes in and where it comes from.
How is Unconditional more affordable than other premium air-dried brands?
Because we own the factory.
Unconditional is made in our own facility. No contract manufacturer, no middlemen, no extra margin folded into the price. We own the building, the production lines, and twenty-five years of air-drying expertise under one roof. What goes into the bag is what we put there, start to finish.
Most premium air-dried and fresh-frozen brands outsource manufacturing, then add a subscription model on top. Two layers of markup before the bag reaches your dog. We skip both. The savings pass directly to you: Unconditional costs around 40% less than comparable air-dried brands, and you can pick it up at the pet store you already visit.
Better nutrition should not require a premium price or a monthly subscription to access. That is what owning our process makes possible.
What kind of facility certifications do you hold? What quality testing do you perform?
Unconditional is produced in a GFSI-SQF certified, FDA registered facility. Every lot of product undergoes in-house quality testing at multiple stages of production, ensuring consistency, safety, and nutritional integrity from the first ingredient to the finished bag.
Ingredients & Nutrition
What is the first ingredient in all Unconditional recipes?
Real, named meat is always the first ingredient. Always. No fillers, no rendered meals, no ingredient tricks. Dogs are natural carnivores and their bowl should reflect that. Ours always does.
Do your recipes contain any fillers?
Never. Fillers are cheap ingredients added to bulk up a recipe without adding nutritional value. Think corn syrup, soy, and low-quality grain meals. You will not find them in Unconditional. Every ingredient in our recipes is there for a reason: to nourish.
Are your recipes grain free?
Yes, all Unconditional recipes are grain free. Grains like corn, wheat, and soy are common fillers in conventional dog food. They add bulk but little meaningful nutrition. Our recipes are built around protein and functional whole-food ingredients instead, supporting better digestion, healthier coats, and more energy.
Why is grain free important for my dog?
Dogs evolved as carnivores. Their digestive systems are designed for protein-rich diets, not grain-heavy ones. Grains are difficult for many dogs to digest efficiently and are often the culprit behind common issues like skin irritation, bloating, and low energy. Going grain free means more of every meal is working for your dog, not passing through them.
Do your meat ingredients contain antibiotics or growth hormones?
No. We do not use meat ingredients sourced from animals treated with antibiotics or growth hormones. Honest ingredients mean honest sourcing, from the farm to the bowl.
Do you use artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives?
No artificial colors, flavors, or synthetic preservatives. Ever. What you see on the label is what is in the bag, nothing more. Our air-dried process naturally preserves nutrients without the need for artificial intervention.
What does 'complete and balanced' mean?
A complete and balanced diet means the recipe meets all the nutritional requirements your dog needs to thrive, with no supplementation required. Unconditional recipes are formulated to meet AAFCO standards, meaning every bowl delivers the right levels of protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals for your dog's health stage.
What does Guaranteed Analysis (GA) on the back of the pack mean?
The Guaranteed Analysis is a regulated panel on every pet food label that shows the minimum or maximum percentages of key nutrients, including crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, and moisture. Think of it as your nutritional transparency report. For air-dried food like Unconditional, it is important to compare on a dry matter basis, since moisture levels differ significantly between formats like kibble, canned, and air-dried.
About Air-Dried
Why is air-drying important?
Air-drying removes moisture slowly at low temperatures, preserving the nutritional integrity of whole-food ingredients without the harsh heat used in conventional kibble manufacturing. The result is a nutrient-dense, highly digestible food that retains the natural proteins, vitamins, and minerals that high-heat processing destroys. It is the closest you can get to raw nutrition without the preparation, hygiene concerns, or freezer space.
Does Unconditional need to be refrigerated or frozen?
No refrigeration or freezer required. Our air-dried recipes are shelf-stable. Store them in a cool, dry place, just like a quality pantry staple. This is one of the key advantages of air-drying: all the nutritional benefits of a minimally processed diet, with none of the storage hassle.
What is the white coating sometimes visible on air-dried food?
That is fat bloom, and it is completely normal. Because we use 100% natural meat ingredients with no artificial binders or coatings, the natural fat in the recipe can occasionally rise to the surface during storage, leaving a thin white or waxy film. Fat bloom has no impact on the nutritional profile of your food and is entirely safe for your dog to eat. It is actually a sign of how clean and natural our ingredients are.
Why not just feed raw meat?
Raw feeding has real merit. The problem is the practicality. Sourcing, preparing, and thawing raw meat every day comes with time demands and genuine hygiene risks from pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli. Unconditional air-dried and canned recipes are complete and balanced diets that deliver raw-equivalent nutrition without the complexity. Our recipes are over 95% digestible and highly nutrient-dense, meaning your dog absorbs more from every bowl. Our processing significantly reduces the risk of pathogenic bacteria, so you get the benefits of raw nutrition in a safe, ready-to-serve format.
How do you minimize pathogenic bacteria in your recipes?
Every Unconditional recipe goes through a validated kill step during production, a scientifically verified process that eliminates pathogenic bacteria to a level confirmed safe by independent validation. This means every bag that leaves our facility has been produced to a standard that significantly reduces the risk of harmful bacteria, giving you confidence in every bowl you serve.
What is the shelf life of Unconditional products?
Unconditional products have a shelf life of up to 2 years when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct light, heat, and humidity.
Once opened, how quickly should I use the product?
Once opened, use within 2 years provided storage conditions remain cool, dry, and away from direct light and heat. Always check the best before date printed on the packaging.
Feeding & Storage
How should I store Unconditional food?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal the bag tightly after each use to maintain freshness. No refrigeration needed before or after opening. Just treat it like the premium pantry staple it is.
How do I transition my dog from their current food to Unconditional?
We recommend a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days to allow your dog's digestive system to adjust. Start by mixing roughly 25% Unconditional with 75% of your dog's current food, then slowly increase the Unconditional portion every few days until you have fully switched over. Some dogs adapt quickly, others need a little more time. Either way, patience pays off.
Life Stages & Breeds
Is Unconditional suitable for both small and large breeds?
Yes. Unconditional recipes are formulated to suit dogs of all sizes.
Are your recipes suitable for puppies or senior dogs?
Most Unconditional recipes are formulated for all life stages, from puppyhood through to the senior years. Each product page clearly indicates the life stage suitability, so you can always find the right fit for where your dog is in their life.
Finding Unconditional
How can I find a retailer near me?
Unconditional is available at Petco, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus as well as your local independent pet retailers nationwide. Use the store locator on our website to find the nearest retailer carrying Unconditional in your area.
Why is Unconditional only available at pet specialty stores?
Because that is where dog people are.
We partner exclusively with pet specialty retailers including Petco, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus and your local independent pet store because these are the stores where the person behind the counter knows your dog by name and understands their needs. A dog or two at the register. People who light up when you walk in with yours.
Unconditional belongs in that room. Not on a general grocery shelf next to paper towels and cereal. We chose pet specialty on purpose, so that the experts who love dogs the way you do can help you find the right recipe, answer your questions, and be part of your dog's story.
Great nutrition deserves great context. That is what a great pet store provides.
